DRIBBLING Β· BALL CONTROL FOUNDATION
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Ball Handling Foundation Series
5-part intro to ball control. this is where every player starts. feel the ball before you move it.
No Hoop 1 Ball 4 ft Clear
⚑ The Foundation Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

Eyes up, not down. You should never need to look at the ball to dribble it. On every part of this drill, practice keeping your head and eyes at chest height. If you have to look, slow down until you don’t.

Part 1Ball Slaps30 sec Β· Max speed

Hold the ball at waist height. Slap it rapidly hand-to-hand as fast as possible. Hear the pop of each slap. The goal is hand speed and grip strength. Eyes stay up β€” don’t watch the ball.

Part 2Fingertip Taps30 sec Β· Only fingertips

Hold ball at chest. Tap it back and forth between fingertips only β€” no palms. The dribble is controlled by fingertips, not palms. This part trains the correct contact point. Eyes up throughout.

Part 3Pound Dribble20 reps each hand Β· Stay low

Knees bent, hips down. Dribble hard with one hand β€” the ball must bounce back up quickly. 20 pounds per hand, then switch. The harder you push down, the more control you have. Never let the ball rise above your waist.

πŸ’ͺ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 3 and Part 4
Wrist Circles + Squeeze Pulses
10 slow wrist circles each direction each wrist. Then: squeeze the ball as hard as possible for 5 seconds, release, repeat 8 times. Ages 7–9: same. Ages 10–13: add 10 fingertip push-ups after. Wrist and hand strength is foundational for all dribbling control. Then continue to Part 4.
Part 4Crossover β€” Slow to Fast20 reps Β· Ball skims floor

Dribble right hand, cross to left hand. Ball must stay low β€” skim the floor, not the hip. Start slow until the crossover is clean and quiet. Build speed only when the exchange is consistent. Count to 20 and switch direction. Eyes up the whole time.

Part 5Weak Hand Isolation30 sec Β· Non-dominant only

30 seconds of pound dribble with your non-dominant hand only. No switching. This is the hardest part β€” it should feel uncomfortable. That discomfort is development. Count how many times you lose control and record it in your Dropbox note.

πŸ’ͺ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 5
Wrist Circles + Squeeze Pulses β€” Repeat
10 wrist circles each direction + 8 ball squeezes. Ages 10–13: add 10 fingertip push-ups. This is your day’s finisher. Consistent wrist conditioning across the month builds the grip control needed for all advanced dribbling moves.
ReferenceBall Control Fundamentals β€” Check These Every Rep
πŸ‘οΈ
Eyes up β€” never look at the ball. Train yourself to feel it, not see it.
πŸ–οΈ
Fingertips only β€” the palm should barely touch the ball. Control comes from the fingers.
⬇️
Ball stays low β€” waist height maximum. Lower = more control, harder to steal.

SHOOTING Β· ONE-HAND FORM
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
One-Hand Form Shooting Series
6-part wall shooting progression. build the shot from the wrist out. no hoop needed.
No Hoop 1 Ball Wall Only
πŸ“‹ Setup β€” Do This Before Part 1

Stand 4 ft from wall. Place a piece of tape at eye level β€” this is your target mark. Shooting-side foot slightly forward. Guide hand hangs to the side β€” shooting hand only today. Say aloud before starting: “Legs. Arm. Snap.” β€” you’ll use this cue on every rep of Parts 4–6.

Part 1 Wrist Snap Only 10 reps Β· Arm does not move

Hold ball at forehead in shooting hand. Flick only the wrist and fingers β€” arm does not move. Wrist only. Ball should travel toward the mark and return with backspin. If the arm moves at all, slow down and restart. Backspin = correct wrist motion.

Part 2 Elbow Extension Only 10 reps Β· No wrist snap yet

Ball at 90Β° elbow. Extend arm straight up toward the wall mark. No wrist snap yet β€” just feel the arm track straight and the elbow travel directly above the eyebrow. The path from 90Β° to full extension should be a straight vertical line toward the target.

πŸ’ͺ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” After Part 2, Before Part 3
Push-Up + Shoulder Circuit
10 push-ups + 10 arm circles each direction. Ages 7–9: wall or incline push-ups, 8 reps. Ages 10–13: floor push-ups, full range, elbows at 45Β°. Builds the shoulder and chest strength that sustains shooting form through a full game. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 3 Arm + Wrist Combined 10 reps Β· Hold follow-through 3 sec

Extend arm, then snap wrist at the top. Hold follow-through 3 full seconds β€” fingers pointing down, “hand in the cookie jar.” Count the 3 seconds aloud: “1… 2… 3.” If the follow-through drops before 3, the rep doesn’t count. Check that elbow tracks above the eyebrow on each rep.

Part 4 Full One-Hand Form with Legs 10 reps Β· Say the cue aloud every rep

Quarter squat, then extend legs first, then arm, then wrist snap. Say out loud: “Legs. Arm. Snap.” every single rep β€” it must be audible on camera. The legs provide the power; the arm and wrist provide the aim. This is the first time all three fire together.

Part 5 Eyes Closed 10 reps Β· Open eyes only after release

Full Part 4 form with eyes closed. Open eyes only after the ball has left your hand. Ask yourself: did it hit the mark? If the direction is consistent with eyes closed, your form is repeatable. Inconsistency means the arm path or wrist is changing between reps β€” slow down and rebuild. Still say “Legs. Arm. Snap.” aloud.

Part 6 Aim for Consecutive Marks 10 reps Β· Record streak in notes

Full form, eyes open. Count consecutive times you hit the tape mark. Your streak resets each time you miss. Say your count aloud: “1… 2… 3…” so it’s audible on camera. Record your highest streak in your Dropbox note β€” this is your Day 2 shooting baseline. The same drill will be revisited in Week 3.

πŸ’ͺ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 6
Push-Up + Shoulder Circuit β€” Repeat
10 push-ups + 10 arm circles each direction. Ages 7–9: wall or incline, 8 reps. Ages 10–13: floor, full range, elbows at 45Β°. This is your day’s finisher β€” the second round builds shoulder endurance that holds form in the final minutes of a game.
ReferenceOne-Hand Shot Sequence β€” Parts Build in Order
πŸ€™
Part 1 β€” Wrist snap only: Backspin = correct. Sidespin = thumb or palm involved. Fix: fingertips only, wrist snaps straight forward.

FOOTWORK Β· JUMP STOP & LANDING
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Jump Stop Series β€” Full Progression
5-part landing footwork. a clean jump stop turns every catch into a weapon. both feet, balanced, every time.
No Hoop 1 Ball 8 ft Clear
⚑ The Jump Stop Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

On a jump stop, both feet land simultaneously β€” not one then the other. Both feet hitting at the same time means you can choose either foot as your pivot foot. Say this aloud before starting: “Both feet at the same time. Either foot can pivot.”

Part 1Jump Stop β€” No Ball10 reps Β· Shadow only

Take 3 walking steps, then jump off one foot and land on both feet simultaneously. Freeze for 2 seconds. Check: feet shoulder-width, knees bent, hips low, back flat, weight balanced. No ball β€” focus entirely on the landing. Say “Both feet” before every rep.

Part 2Jump Stop Into Triple Threat10 reps Β· Hold 2 sec

Walk 3 steps, jump stop, land and immediately go into triple threat position. Ball at hip, knees bent, head up, elbows out. Hold for 2 full seconds β€” head scans left then right. Parent watches to confirm the landing is simultaneous, not one foot then the other.

🦡
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 2 and Part 3
Box Jump + Stick Landing
Find a step, curb, or low box (6–10 inches). Jump up with both feet, land with both feet simultaneously β€” freeze 2 seconds. 6 reps. Ages 7–9: step up and step down, no jump. Ages 10–13: full jump, hold stick 2 sec each landing. Trains the exact mechanics of the game-speed jump stop.
Part 31-2 Step β€” Left Then Right10 reps each foot Β· Alternate

The 1-2 step is the alternative to the jump stop. Walk into the catch: non-dominant foot lands first (1), dominant foot plants second (2). Say “One-two” as each foot lands. 10 reps leading with the left, 10 with the right. Hold triple threat after each rep.

Part 4Jump Stop Off the Dribble10 reps Β· Pick up, stop clean

Dribble 4–5 steps, then pick up the ball and execute a clean jump stop. No extra steps after picking up the ball. The moment the ball leaves the floor for the last time, the next landing must be the jump stop. Hesitating after the pick-up is a travel. Say “Pick up β€” stop” on every rep.

🦡
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 4, Before Part 5
Box Jump + Stick Landing β€” Repeat
6 more box jumps or step touches. Same 2-sec freeze on every landing. Ages 7–9: step up/down. Ages 10–13: full jump. Then immediately continue to Part 5.
Part 5Jump Stop + Decision10 reps Β· Call SHOOT or PASS aloud

Dribble, pick up, jump stop into triple threat. Then immediately call “SHOOT” or “PASS” β€” alternate each rep. Execute the call: shadow shoot with BEEF form, or look and execute a shadow pass. No repeat decisions β€” must alternate. This is your first game-speed footwork rep.

ReferenceJump Stop vs 1-2 Step β€” Know Both, Use Both
🦘
Jump Stop: Both feet land simultaneously. Either foot can become the pivot foot. Best used on catch-and-shoot spot-ups and when already stationary.
1️⃣
1-2 Step: Non-dominant foot first, dominant plants second. Better for cutting off a run. Shooting-side foot is always the pivot foot.
⚠️
Most common error: One foot landing before the other on a “jump stop” β€” that makes it a 1-2 step, and limits your pivot foot options. The simultaneous landing is the whole point.
πŸ“’
Required verbal cue every rep: Say “Both feet” on each jump stop rep. Must be audible on camera. Part 5 decisions must also be audible.

Family Triple Threat Day
player teaches triple threat. parent learns the position. then both compete. teaching is the deepest form of learning.
1–2 Balls Family 8 ft Open
πŸ† Day 4 Rule β€” Read Before Starting

The player is the coach today. Every instruction comes from the player β€” not the parent. Parents: follow the player’s lead, ask questions, try your best. This day earns points for both the teaching quality and the execution quality.

Phase 1Player Teaches Triple Threat3 min verbal Β· No shots yet

Player explains triple threat to parent β€” no ball yet. Cover all 3 options aloud: (1) Shoot. (2) Drive. (3) Pass. Then demonstrate the position: ball at hip, knees bent, weight balanced, head up, elbows out. Parent must repeat the 3 options back before moving on.

Phase 2Parent Practices β€” Player Grades10 catches Β· Player corrects form

Player passes to parent 10 times. Parent catches and goes into triple threat β€” hold 2 seconds. Player grades each hold: “Good” if all 3 positions are correct, “Fix it” if not. Player must say specifically what’s wrong: “Elbow is in, not out” or “Ball is too high β€” bring it to your hip.” No vague feedback.

πŸƒ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Phase 2 and Phase 3
Partner Squat Hold + High Five
Both player and parent drop into a squat hold side by side. Hold 20 seconds. Then high-five each other on the way back up. Ages 7–9: 12-sec hold. Ages 10–13: 25-sec hold + 10 pulse squats at the bottom before standing. Building lower body strength together.
Phase 3Triple Threat + Verbal Decision10 reps Β· Player calls aloud

Player receives 10 passes from parent. Each time: catch, triple threat, hold 1 second, then call one of the 3 options aloud β€” “SHOOT,” “DRIVE,” or “PASS” β€” and execute it. All 3 options must appear across 10 reps. No using only “Shoot” every rep.

Phase 4Reaction Game β€” Parent Calls the Option10 reps Β· React in 1 sec

Player catches. Parent immediately calls one of the 3 options right as the player catches the ball. Player must react and execute within 1 second of the catch. Parent randomizes the calls β€” never two of the same in a row. This simulates game-speed decision pressure.

πŸƒ

Partner Squat Hold + High Five β€” Repeat
25-sec squat hold + 10 pulse squats each. Ages 7–9: 15 sec + 6 pulses. Ages 10–13: full version. This is the day’s finisher. The lower body endurance built here directly supports triple threat stability.

πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Form + Range Shooting Series
5-part progression. same BEEF form from Day 2, now pushed farther. distance only earns when form holds.
Hoop Required 1 Ball No Hoop Alt Below
⚑ The Range Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

Distance earns when form holds. If a breakdown appears at 8 ft β€” elbow flares, follow-through drops, knees don’t load β€” step back to 6 ft and rebuild. Never push range at the expense of mechanics. Form is the product, distance is the reward.

Part 1BEEF Warm-Up β€” No Ball10 shadow shots Β· Say all 4 letters

10 shadow shots, no ball. Say each BEEF letter aloud as you execute it: “Balance… Eyes… Elbow… Follow-through.” Hold the follow-through 2 seconds every rep. This reactivates the muscle memory from Day 2 before adding distance stress.

Part 25 ft Confirmation Shots10 reps Β· Confirm Day 2 form

10 shots from 5 ft β€” same starting distance as Day 2. Parent grades each shot 0–4 using BEEF. Goal: average 3.0 or higher (form improved or maintained from Day 2). Record the average in your Dropbox note alongside your Day 2 score. If the average dropped, spend 2 extra minutes here before Part 3.

πŸš€
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 2 and Part 3
Jump + Shoot Timing Drill
Jump straight up and release an imaginary shot at the peak of the jump β€” 8 reps. The goal is to feel the release point at maximum height. Ages 7–9: 5 slow reps, focus on the peak feeling. Ages 10–13: 8 full-speed reps, hold follow-through in the air. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 38 ft Extension Shots10 reps Β· Form must hold

Step back to 8 ft. Same BEEF form β€” no pushing or heaving to reach the rim. Use your legs more, not your arms more. The elbow is the most common breakdown at this range β€” if it flares, step back to 6 ft for 3 shots, then try 8 ft again. Parent grades continuously.

Part 4Left Wing + Right Wing8 reps each side Β· Hips square

Move to the right wing (45Β° angle). 8 shots. Then left wing. 8 shots. Hips must fully square to the basket from each angle β€” do not shoot sideways. The most common error here is the hips staying angled when the feet move. Rotate the entire body to face the basket before shooting.

Part 55-Spot Game Challenge5 spots Β· 3 shots each Β· Record score

5 spots: left corner, left wing, top of key, right wing, right corner. 3 shots at each spot = 15 total shots. Record your make count out of 15 in your Dropbox note. This is your Day 5 shooting snapshot β€” same 5 spots will be used again in Week 3 to measure improvement.

πŸš€
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 5
Jump + Shoot Timing β€” Repeat
8 more jump-and-release reps. Ages 7–9: 5 slow reps. Ages 10–13: 8 full speed. Track whether your release point feels higher than the first set. This finisher reinforces the peak-release timing that adds arc and consistency to the shot.
ReferenceForm Breakdowns at Distance β€” What to Fix
1
Ball falls short: Legs didn’t load β€” knees bent only slightly, no drive upward. Fix: deeper knee bend, drive up through the ball.
2
Elbow flares out: The most common range error. Fix: place elbow directly under the ball before the shot begins. Think “L-shape” every time.
3
Follow-through drops early: Shooter watches the shot instead of holding the form. Fix: keep hand in the “cookie jar” position until you hear the ball hit the rim.
4
Hips not square: Body stays angled on wing shots. Fix: before shooting, rotate both hips to face the basket. Hips and chest must both point at the rim.

Dribble Mechanics Series
6-part handle progression. crossover to between legs to behind back. each move has a rule. learn the rule before the move.
No Hoop 1 Ball 6 ft Clear
⚑ The Dribble Mechanics Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Every move in this drill must be clean and controlled at slow speed before you increase pace. If you lose the ball at half-speed, you were already going too fast. Eyes stay up on every single part.

Part 1Inside-Out Dribble20 reps each hand Β· Sell the fake

Push the ball toward the inside as if crossing over, then snap it back to the same hand. The fake must look convincing β€” hips shift, shoulder dips, eyes flick. This is a fake without a transfer. 20 reps right hand, 20 left. Eyes up throughout. Count aloud.

Part 2Low Crossover Series20 reps Β· Ball skims floor

Crossover right-to-left, then left-to-right. Ball must cross below knee height β€” skim the floor. High crossovers are steals waiting to happen. Slow to fast: 10 slow reps, 10 at half-game speed. Eyes up, head stable. Hips drop as the ball crosses.

🀸
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 2 and Part 3
Lateral Shuffle + Ball Slaps
Shuffle 4 steps left, 4 steps right while slapping the ball hand-to-hand continuously. 3 sets Γ— 20 sec. Ages 7–9: 2 sets, 12 sec each. Ages 10–13: 3 sets, 20 sec with no stopping. Combines lateral quickness with ball familiarity under fatigue.
Part 3Between the Legs β€” Stationary20 reps Β· Front foot alternates

Step right foot forward, dribble ball through the legs from right hand to left. Step left foot forward, dribble back right-to-left. The front foot must be forward before the ball passes through β€” no reaching through with the foot behind. 20 complete cycles.

Part 4Hesitation Dribble10 reps each hand Β· Full stop, then burst Dribble forward 2 steps, then freeze completely for 1 full second β€” body still, ball still in the air above the floor. Then burst forward with 2 hard dribbles. The pause is what sells the move. If the stop isn’t convincing, the move doesn’t work. 10 reps right, 10 left.
Part 5Behind the Back β€” Slow to Fast15 reps Β· Pendulum motion

Swing the ball around the back from the right hand to the left. The motion is a pendulum β€” low arc, firm push, receives in front of the left hip. Start slow: 5 reps at walking pace. Then 5 at half-speed. Then 5 at three-quarter speed. Do not attempt full game speed until the exchange is clean and quiet.

Part 6 Combo Move β€” Choose Any 2 from Today10 reps Β· Moves must connect cleanly Choose any 2 moves from Parts 1–5 and connect them in a single sequence. Say your combo aloud before starting: e.g. “Crossover then between the legs” or “Inside-out then hesi.” 10 reps of that same combo. The transition between moves must be smooth β€” no reset dribbles between. This is your Day 6 showcase skill.

3 sets Γ— 20 sec lateral shuffle with continuous ball slaps. Ages 7–9: 2 sets, 12 sec. Ages 10–13: 3 sets, 20 sec. Then immediately continue to Part 6.
Part 6Combo Move β€” Choose Any 2 from Today10 reps Β· Moves must connect cleanly

Choose any 2 moves from Parts 1–5 and connect them in a single sequence. Say your combo aloud before starting: e.g. “Crossover then between the legs” or “Inside-out then hesi.” 10 reps of that same combo. The transition between moves must be smooth β€” no reset dribbles between. This is your Day 6 showcase skill.

ReferenceDribble Move Keys β€” What Makes Each One Work
πŸ”„
Inside-Out: The fake must make the defender commit β€” hips shift, shoulder drops. Without the sell, it’s just a wasted dribble.
⚑
Low Crossover: Ball below the knee. High crossovers are stolen. The lower the cross, the faster and safer it is.
🦡
Between the Legs: Front foot must be forward BEFORE the ball passes through. Foot behind = reach-in steal waiting to happen.
⏸️
Hesitation: The full-stop freeze is the move. If the stop looks casual, the defender won’t bite. Freeze means freeze β€” body AND ball.

πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Pivot Series β€” Full Progression
6-part pivot drill. front and reverse. both feet. do not travel.
No Hoop 1 Ball 4 ft Space
⚑ The Pivot Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

Pivot foot heel may rotate but never lift. The moment the heel comes off the floor, it’s a travel. Say your pivot foot aloud before every single rep β€” “Right foot” or “Left foot” β€” so it’s audible on camera.

Part 1Front Pivot, Right Foot10 reps

Right foot is glued to the floor β€” heel may rotate, never lift. Left foot steps forward and around in a wide arc. Hold 2 seconds in the new position. Say “Right foot” before every rep. Check that heel never peels up mid-pivot.

Part 2 Reverse Pivot, Right Foot10 reps Right foot stays glued. Left foot steps backward β€” body spins away from the imaginary defender. Hold 2 seconds. Say “Right foot β€” reverse” before every rep. The body should shield the ball from the defender at the end of each pivot.
Part 3Left Foot as Pivot20 reps Β· 10 front + 10 reverse

Switch pivot feet. Left foot is now glued β€” right foot moves. 10 front pivots + 10 reverse pivots. Say “Left foot” before each rep. Most players favor one foot β€” this part exposes and fixes the weaker side.

Part 4Add Ball, No Shot10 reps each foot

Same pivot sequences as Parts 1–3, now holding the ball. After each pivot, hold ball in triple threat pocket for 1 second β€” do not shoot. Alternate right and left foot each rep. 10 reps per foot. The ball should stay protected through the entire pivot motion.

🧘
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” After Part 3, Before Part 4
Hip Flexor Lunge + Single-Leg Balance
Lunge hold 30 seconds each leg (front knee at 90Β°, back knee hovering). Then single-leg balance 20 sec each side. Ages 7–9: hold wall lightly for balance. Ages 10–13: eyes closed for 10 of the 20 seconds. Then continue to Part 4.
Part 5Pivot + Shot Fake10 reps Β· Alternate feet

Pivot (front or reverse, alternate). Then: pump fake β€” ball to pocket, eyes up, knees dip. Hold the fake 0.5 sec. The shot fake must be convincing β€” ball reaches pocket height and knees visibly dip. A weak fake earns no points.

Part 6Pivot + Decision10 reps Β· Alternate feet

Pivot. Then immediately call “SHOOT” or “PASS” aloud β€” alternate each rep so both decisions appear. Execute immediately after the call. No repeat decisions (e.g., 5 in a row of “SHOOT”) β€” alternating is required for full points.

🧘
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 6
Hip Flexor Lunge + Single-Leg Balance β€” Repeat
Lunge hold 30 sec each leg + single-leg balance 20 sec each side. Ages 7–9: wall support. Ages 10–13: eyes closed for 10 sec. Hip flexibility directly improves pivot range and balance.
ReferencePivot Rules β€” What’s Legal, What’s a Travel
βœ…
Legal: Heel rotates on the floor. Ball of foot lifts slightly. Free foot moves freely in any direction.
❌
Travel: Pivot heel comes off the floor. Pivot foot slides. Pivot foot lifts and replants in a new spot.
πŸ”„
Front Pivot: Free foot steps forward and around the defender. Body faces a new direction. Ball stays protected.
↩️
Reverse Pivot: Free foot steps backward. Body swings away from defender, shielding ball. Preferred when defender is fronting you.
πŸ“’

FOOTWORK Β· DEFENSIVE STANCE
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Defensive Footwork Series
5-part defensive stance and slide progression. defense wins games. build the habit now.
No Hoop No Ball 10 ft Wide
πŸ“‹ Stance Check β€” Say All 5 Aloud Before Starting

(1) Feet wider than shoulders. (2) Knees bent, thighs near parallel. (3) Hips down, back flat. (4) One hand up, one low. (5) Eyes on chest β€” not the ball. All 5 must be stated to camera before the first rep.

Part 1Static Hold3 sets Γ— 30 sec Β· Note when form breaks

Drop into defensive stance β€” all 5 checkpoints active. Hold for 30 seconds without straightening. In your Dropbox note, record how many seconds into each set your form broke. If you hold the full 30 sec clean, write “30 clean.” This is your baseline measurement for the month.

Part 2Defensive Slide3 sets Γ— 8 reps Β· Feet never cross

4 steps left, reverse 4 steps right = 1 rep. Lead foot steps, trail foot drags to follow β€” feet never cross. Stay in defensive stance throughout. Count reps aloud so the set count is audible on camera.

πŸ‹οΈ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” After Part 2, Before Part 3
Wall Sit + Pulse Squat
Wall sit 30 seconds + 10 pulse squats (stay at bottom, pulse 2 inches up and down). Ages 7–9: 20 sec wall sit + 8 pulses. Ages 10–13: 40 sec + 12 pulses. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 3Retreat Step2 sets Γ— 10 reps Β· Alternate feet

From defensive stance: drop step back at 45Β° with one foot, drive back into stance position. Alternate feet each rep β€” left drop, right drop. Stay low throughout. The retreat step is used when your opponent is driving past you β€” it buys a half-step of recovery space.

Part 4Close-Out Drill2 sets Γ— 8 reps

Sprint 6 full steps toward imaginary shooter. On the last 2 steps, break into short, choppy steps β€” feet come back under your body, hips drop, one hand goes up. Land balanced. No full-speed run into a stumble β€” the chop must be visible on camera. A sprinted close-out that doesn’t break down earns no points.

πŸ‹οΈ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 4, Before Part 5
Wall Sit + Pulse Squat β€” Repeat
Wall sit 30 sec + 10 pulse squats. Ages 7–9: 20 sec + 8 pulses. Ages 10–13: 40 sec + 12 pulses. Then continue straight into Part 5 β€” the mirror reaction drill.
Part 5Mirror + Reaction2 min Β· Self-directed

Front camera on your phone as a mirror. Drop into stance. Call your own directions aloud: “Left!” “Right!” “Back!” β€” randomly, for 2 full minutes. Execute each call immediately as you say it. No pattern β€” random order keeps your reactions honest. Stay in stance the entire 2 minutes.

Reference5-Point Stance Check β€” Verify Before Every Set
1
Feet wider than shoulders β€” base is wide, stable, ready to slide either direction
2
Knees bent, thighs near parallel β€” not a slight dip β€” actual quarter squat depth
3
Hips down, back flat β€” not hunched, not upright β€” athletic spine

SHOOTING Β· CATCH & SHOOT FOOTWORK
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
1-2 Step Catch & Shoot Series
6-part catch-and-shoot footwork. ball in air, feet in air. prepare early β€” always.
Hoop or Wall 1 Ball 8 ft Clear
⚑ The Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

“We don’t shoot quickly β€” we PREPARE to shoot quickly.” Feet should be moving into position while the ball is still in the air on its way to you. Say this to camera before the first rep of every part.

Part 1Walk-Through, No Ball10 reps Β· Footwork only

No ball. Step non-shooting foot (1), then plant shooting-side foot (2). Freeze in the catch position. Check: hips square to the basket, knees bent, weight balanced. This is the foundation β€” get the foot pattern automatic before adding the ball.

Part 2Add Ball, Slow Motion10 reps Β· No shot

Self-toss 3 ft to your side. Walk into the catch using the 1-2 step. Catch as the second foot lands β€” not before, not after. Freeze. Do not shoot. The goal is timing the feet and the catch simultaneously. Slow is correct here.

Part 3Add Shot, 5 ft10 reps Β· No extra dribble

1-2 step, catch, shoot immediately. No extra dribble between the catch and the shot β€” this is the most common error and costs points. Shoot from 5 ft. Say “Ball in air, feet in air” before each rep.

Part 4Hop Stop10 reps Β· Both feet land simultaneously

Instead of 1-2 step, use a hop stop β€” both feet leave the ground and land simultaneously. Same catch position, same shooting setup. Practice both footwork options β€” both are legal and both appear in game situations. No extra dribble after landing.

🦘
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 3 and Part 4
Broad Jump + Stick Landing
5 broad jumps β€” jump forward with both feet, land on both feet, freeze for 2 seconds. Ages 7–9: jump to a towel placed 2 ft away, land soft. Ages 10–13: max distance effort, hold 2 full seconds before moving. Then continue to Part 4.
Part 5Left + Right Side10 reps each side Β· Hips must square

Right wing first β€” 10 reps from the right side. Then left wing β€” 10 reps from the left side. Hips must square to the basket from both angles. The left side is harder for right-handed shooters. Do not skip or rush the weaker side.

Part 6Game Speed10 reps Β· Trust the footwork

Parent passes (or wall-pass) at medium-fast speed. Execute the full catch-and-shoot at real game pace. Say “Ball in air, feet in air” before each rep. Form breaks at speed = slow down, fix it, rebuild. If you can’t do it slowly, you can’t do it quickly.

🦘
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 6
Broad Jump + Stick Landing β€” Repeat
5 broad jumps, land and freeze 2 sec each. Ages 7–9: towel target, soft landing. Ages 10–13: max effort, full hold. Builds the landing control that prevents knee injuries on catch-and-shoot plays.
Reference1-2 Step vs Hop Stop β€” Know Both
1️⃣
1-2 Step: Non-shooting foot lands first (1), shooting-side foot plants second (2). More control, slightly slower setup. Best from a run or off a curl cut.
🦘
Hop Stop: Both feet leave the ground and land simultaneously. Faster setup, slightly less control. Best on spot-up catches when you’re already stationary.
⚠️
Most common error: Extra dribble between catch and shot. This eliminates your advantage β€” the defender recovers during that dribble. Catch it, set your feet, shoot.
πŸ“’
Required verbal cue (Parts 3–6): Say “Ball in air, feet in air” before every rep. Must be audible on camera to earn verbal cue points.

πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Family Dribble Competition Series

No Hoop 2 Balls Family
πŸ† Competition Rules β€” Read Before Starting

Player leads every round. Both are on camera for all 5 rounds. Round scores and the Round 1 sync count go in your Dropbox note. Family bonus points are awarded when parent completes all 5 rounds alongside the athlete.

Round 1 Stationary Sync 2 min Β· Score 1 pt per 10 synced dribbles

Stand 4 ft apart, each with a ball. Player sets the rhythm and height. Parent matches β€” both balls hit the floor simultaneously. Count consecutive synced dribbles (both balls land at the same time). Score 1 point per 10 consecutive synced dribbles. Record your total score in your Dropbox note.

Round 2 Follow the Leader 2 min each direction Β· Player leads first

Player calls a dribble move aloud β€” parent mirrors it 2 seconds later. 2 minutes with player leading. Then swap β€” parent leads, player mirrors. Parent should choose slightly harder moves each turn to push the player. Both dribble continuously β€” no stopping between moves.

πŸƒ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Round 2 and Round 3
High Knees + Dribble Combo
Player: 20 seconds of high knees while dribbling β€” drive knees to hip height, keep dribble alive simultaneously. Parent: high knees without ball, same 20 seconds. Ages 7–9: 10 sec normal high knees + 10 sec with ball. Ages 10–13: full 20 sec with ball. Then both: 15 jumping jacks together before Round 3.
Round 3 Simon Says Dribble 2 min Β· Player gets 3 lives

Parent calls dribble commands randomly. Player executes ONLY on “Simon says.” Execute without “Simon says” = lose a life. Player starts with 3 lives β€” how many remain at the end? Record it in your Dropbox note. Both must dribble continuously throughout, even while listening for commands.

Round 4 Dribble Tag First to 5 Β· Player uses weak hand 50%+

Both dribble in a 10Γ—10 ft area. Knock the other person’s ball away without losing control of your own. First to knock away the other’s ball 5 times wins. Player must use their weak (non-dominant) hand for at least 50% of the round β€” this is a scoreable item the coach will verify on video.

Round 5 Weak Hand Only 90 sec Β· Both non-dominant hand Β· Bonus points available

Both player and parent use their non-dominant hand only for 90 seconds. No switching. If either person catches the ball using their dominant (wrong) hand β€” the other earns +5 bonus family points. Call it out loud the moment it happens so it’s captured on camera.

Reference Round Scoring + What Goes in Dropbox Notes

FOOTWORK Β· V-CUT & GETTING OPEN
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
V-Cut Series β€” Getting Open Off the Ball
5-part cut progression. great shots start before you touch the ball. set up the defender first.
No Hoop 1 Ball 15 ft clear
⚑ The Rule β€” Say This Aloud Before Starting

Walk toward the defender to set up the cut. On your last step, plant hard and explode in the opposite direction. The cut is only as good as the fake before it.

Part 1 V-Cut Footwork Only 10 reps Β· No ball

Walk 3 steps toward imaginary defender. Plant right foot hard. Sprint 4–5 steps left (or right). Repeat. Say “Sell the walk!” before each rep. The walking approach must look convincing β€” 3 full, deliberate steps before the plant.

Part 2 V-Cut + Call for Ball 10 reps

Same as Part 1. Add a verbal “Ball!” at the exact moment you change direction β€” not before, not after. Time the call so it arrives as you plant and push. This is the timing you’ll need in a game.

⚑
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Do This Now Before Part 3
Sprint Burst Intervals
4 sprint-in-place bursts β€” pump legs and arms at full speed for 6 seconds, rest 6 seconds. Ages 7–9: 3 bursts of 4 seconds. Ages 10–13: 5 bursts of 6 seconds. Drive knees to hip height. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 3 V-Cut + Catch + Triple Threat 10 reps

Parent passes (or self-toss from wall). Cut, call, catch the pass. Land in triple threat β€” jump stop or 1-2 step. Hold triple threat 2 seconds. Head scans left then right β€” make the head scan obvious on camera. This is a scoreable item.

Part 4 V-Cut + Catch + Decision 10 reps

Same as Part 3. After catching in triple threat, call “SHOOT” or “DRIVE” based on the imaginary defender’s position. Call it OUT LOUD before moving. Execute immediately β€” shadow shoot or 1-step drive. No hesitation after the call.

Part 5 V-Cut + Back-Cut 5 reps each direction

Set up a V-cut. If the imaginary defender overplays (jumping the V-cut direction), reverse the cut β€” plant, step back toward the basket. Call “Back!” instead of “Ball!” This is the counter to the V-cut. The distinction between the two calls must be audible on camera.

⚑
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 5
Sprint Burst Intervals β€” Repeat
4 sprint-in-place bursts β€” full speed 6 sec, rest 6 sec. Ages 7–9: 3 bursts of 4 sec. Ages 10–13: 5 bursts of 6 sec. This is your day’s finisher. Builds the fast-twitch explosion used in cut initiation.
Reference The V-Cut System β€” Two Moves, One Setup
🚢
The Setup (Parts 1–2): 3 slow steps toward the defender. Must look like you’re walking away from the basket. The fake only works if the walk is convincing.
⚑
The V-Cut (Parts 3–4): Plant hard on the last step, explode in the opposite direction. Call “Ball!” at the exact moment of the plant. Receive in triple threat.
↩️
The Back-Cut Counter (Part 5): If the defender overplays and jumps your V-cut direction, skip the V-cut entirely β€” plant and cut straight back to the basket. Call “Back!” not “Ball!”

πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Read the Defender β€” Decision Series
5-part IQ progression. arm’s length rule β†’ shot fake read β†’ jab step β†’ back-cut read β†’ full sequence.
No Hoop OK 1 Ball IQ Focus
⚑ The Arm’s Length Rule β€” Say This Before Starting

Catch in triple threat. Extend your shooting arm toward the defender. CLOSER than arm’s length = Drive. FARTHER than arm’s length = Shoot. This one rule covers 80% of your shooting decisions. State it aloud to camera before the first rep.

Part 1 Arm’s Length Read 10 reps Β· No hesitation

Self-toss to catch in triple threat. Extend arm toward imaginary defender. Call “SHOOT” or “DRIVE” β€” execute immediately. No hesitation after the call. Alternate the imagined defender distance every rep so both reads appear across 10 reps.

Part 2 Shot Fake Read 10 reps

Catch in triple threat. Pump fake β€” ball to pocket, eyes up, knees dip. “Did the defender bite?” If yes: call “Drive!” and take 1 step. If no: call “Shoot!” and execute. The call must come before the move. The pump fake must be convincing β€” ball reaches pocket height, knees dip visibly.

πŸ‹οΈ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Do This Now Before Part 3
Plank + Mountain Climber Series
20-sec plank hold + 12 mountain climbers (drive knee toward chest alternating). Ages 7–9: forearm plank 15 sec + 8 climbers. Ages 10–13: high plank 25 sec + 15 climbers + shoulder tap after each. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 3 Jab Step Read 10 reps

Triple threat. Jab non-pivot foot at 45Β° β€” sharp, hard, convincing. Read: “Did they retreat?” If yes: call “Pull up!” (shot in place). If no: call “Drive other way!” Call the read aloud before executing. The jab must look threatening β€” a lazy jab earns no reaction from the defense.

Part 4 Back-Cut Read 10 reps

Defender is overplaying and denying the ball. Walk toward them (sell the cut). They deny hard β€” staying between you and the ball. Call “Back!” β€” back-cut toward the basket. Receive imaginary pass. Catch in triple threat at the new position. The walk toward the defender must look like a real V-cut setup.

Part 5 Full Sequence β€” All 4 Reads 10 reps Β· Randomized Β· All 4 must appear

Combine all 4 reads randomly. Start each rep in triple threat. Call the read type out loud before executing: “Arm’s length!” or “Shot fake!” or “Jab read!” or “Back-cut!” All 4 read types must appear at least once across the 10 reps β€” a sequence that uses only 1 or 2 types earns no points for Part 5.

πŸ‹οΈ
πŸ’ͺ S&C Finisher β€” After Part 5
Plank + Mountain Climber Series β€” Repeat
20-sec plank hold + 12 mountain climbers. Ages 7–9: forearm plank 15 sec + 8 climbers. Ages 10–13: high plank 25 sec + 15 climbers. Core stability directly improves shot balance and decision speed. This is your day’s finisher.

earn your distance. 3 consecutive correct-form makes = advance. miss = stay.
Hoop Required 1 Ball Tape Markers
πŸ“ Ladder Rule β€” Read Before Starting

Make 3 consecutive correct-form shots to advance to the next marker. Miss or form break β€” stay. You never go backward. Tape markers at 4 ft, 6 ft, 8 ft, 10 ft. Ages 7–9: 3 ft, 5 ft, 7 ft.

Part 1 Setup & Form Checklist Review before shooting

Every shot must have all 4 form points visible on camera:

  • Ball at shot pocket β€” not hip
  • Elbow under ball β€” forms an L shape
  • Guide hand on side only β€” not under
  • Follow-through held until ball hits rim
Part 2 Ladder Run 1 All markers Β· Track total shots

Work through all markers one at a time. 3 consecutive correct-form makes to advance. Record two numbers in your Dropbox note: (1) the farthest marker you reached and (2) the total number of shots taken. Both numbers are required for scoring.

πŸš€
πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Run 1 and Pressure Round
Vertical Jump Reach Tracking
5 vertical jump reach attempts β€” squat then explode up, reach as high as possible with your shooting hand. Mark your reach on wall with tape. Ages 7–9: match your prior mark. Ages 10–13: beat it every session. Then continue to the Pressure Round.
Part 3 Pressure Round Parent counts aloud Β· All markers

Same ladder rules as Run 1. Parent watches every shot and counts aloud β€” “1, 2, 3” β€” the verbal count creates pressure. Miss on rep 3 (right before advancing) = restart that marker’s count from 1. The count must be clearly audible on camera to earn the pressure round points.

Part 4 Ladder Run 2 Beat Run 1 efficiency

Same ladder rules. The goal is to complete in fewer total shots than Run 1. Record the Run 2 shot count in your Dropbox note directly alongside the Run 1 number. Fewer shots = higher score. If you take more shots, that still counts β€” just note both numbers honestly.

Reference Shooting Form β€” Check Every Shot
1
Ball at shot pocket β€” ball starts at chest height, not hip or shoulder
2
Elbow under ball β€” forms an L, elbow points toward the basket
3

How to Film This Day
Athlete Records Themselves Teaching BEEF to Parent
  • Start recording before you say a single word. Camera should be set up to see both the athlete and the parent clearly.
  • Athlete speaks directly to camera and explains each BEEF letter out loud β€” B, E, E, F β€” in order, in their own words. No reading from a phone or paper.
  • Parent listens without helping. After the explanation, parent repeats all 4 letters back. If they can’t, athlete explains again until parent can.
  • Keep the camera rolling through all shooting rounds. Do not stop and restart β€” one continuous recording is preferred so the coach can see the full teaching and grading sequence.
  • Athlete must be heard on video grading each shot aloud. “That’s a 3 β€” Balance, Eyes, and Follow-Through were good. Elbow was out.” Silence = no points for grading.
Step 1 Player Teaches BEEF 3 min verbal Β· No shots yet

Standing still β€” no ball, no shots yet. Player explains each BEEF letter out loud. No skipping, no rushing. Parent must be able to repeat all 4 back correctly before shooting begins.

Parent Parent Round 1 β€” 10 Shots at 5 ft Player grades each shot 1–4

Player watches every shot. Grade each 1–4 (1 pt per BEEF letter correct). Explain each grade specifically aloud β€” “You got Balance and Eyes. Elbow was out, Follow-through dropped β€” that’s a 2.”

Player Player Round 1 β€” 10 Shots at 5 ft Parent grades Β· Specific feedback only

Player shoots 10 shots from 5 ft. Parent grades each with the BEEF rubric. Specific feedback only β€” no “good shot.” Must identify which letter broke down each time.

Parent Parent Round 2 β€” 10 Shots at 7 ft Player grades Β· Did parent improve?

Farther distance exposes form breakdowns. Player grades again with full BEEF rubric. Did parent’s score improve from Round 1? Report score comparison in your Dropbox note.

πŸ“ Read Framework β€” How Every Rep Works

Parent tosses ball, then closes out. Player reads the distance and calls “SHOOT” or “DRIVE” aloud before moving. The call must come before the execution β€” not after. No hesitation once the call is made.

πŸŽ™
Pre-Drill Declaration β€” Player Says This to Camera Before Starting
“I shoot when outside arm’s length. I drive when inside. I pump fake when I’m not sure.”
Part 1 Open Look 5 reps Β· Shoot immediately

Parent tosses and stays at the hoop. Player catches in triple threat, recognizes the open look, and shoots immediately β€” no hesitation, no extra dribbles. Full BEEF form every shot. This rep establishes your baseline before the closeouts begin.

Part 2 Slow Closeout 5 reps Β· Shoot before they arrive

Parent slowly walks toward player after toss. Call “SHOOT” and release before parent reaches arm’s length. The shot must be gone before they arrive. No catching and waiting β€” the read happens the moment the ball leaves the parent’s hands.

πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” Between Part 2 and Part 3
Plyometric Step-Up + Single-Leg Landing
8 explosive step-ups each leg on a stair or 8-inch step + 3 single-leg drop lands per side (step off, land one foot, freeze 2 sec). Ages 7–9: step-ups only, no drop land. Ages 10–13: full explosive version. Then continue to Part 3.
Part 3 Fast Closeout to Drive 5 reps Β· Drive only β€” no shooting

Parent sprints at player after toss. Inside arm’s length = DRIVE. Call “DRIVE” aloud before taking a single step. One dribble, one explosive step toward the basket. Do not shoot on a fast closeout β€” this is the most common mistake and no points are awarded for a wrong decision.

Part 4 Random Closeout 10 reps Β· Parent chooses randomly

Parent randomly chooses slow or fast β€” player does not know in advance. Call “SHOOT” or “DRIVE” before executing. Record your accuracy: how many of 10 did you read correctly? Write the number in your Dropbox note β€” this is a required scoring item.

Part 5 Shot Fake + Counter 5 reps Β· Fake then drive

Fast closeout. Parent sprints. Player pump fakes β€” parent bites (jumps). Player drives. Say “Fake!” then “Drive!” aloud in sequence before each move. The pump fake must be convincing enough to make the parent jump β€” sell it with your eyes and knees dipping, not just the ball moving.

πŸ“Ί Film Session Rules

Any NBA, WNBA, or college game. No phones for anything else during film. Player narrates in real time β€” call out reads, cuts, and decisions as they happen. Parent listens first, then asks one genuine question.

Step 1 Film Session 10 min Β· Watch + narrate together

Watch 10 minutes of any NBA, WNBA, or college game. Player narrates throughout. While watching, look for all 3 of these and call them out the moment you see them:

  • One player using the arm’s length rule correctly β€” identify the player and the read
  • One closeout read β€” did the offensive player make the right decision?
  • One cut that created an open shot β€” V-cut, back-cut, or curl?
Step 2 Player Identifies β€” On Camera 3 specific observations Β· ABA terminology

Player speaks to camera with all 3 film observations. Use ABA terminology throughout β€” arm’s length, triple threat, V-cut, closeout. Vague answers (“he played good defense”) earn no points. Be specific with player names, the exact read, and the mechanic you saw.

Step 3 Parent Question + Player Week Debrief Both on camera Β· 3 debrief points required

Parent asks one genuine question based on the film observations β€” listen, follow up if vague. Then player speaks to camera with all 3 debrief points:

  • “The drill I felt strongest on this week was ___.”
  • “The mechanic I want to improve is ___, specifically ___.”
  • “One thing I noticed this week I hadn’t noticed before: ___.”
Parent Parent Speaks Observations only Β· On camera

Parent to camera: “What I noticed watching you this week was ___.” Observations only β€” not coaching, not corrections. One honest, specific thing you saw. Record both player and parent on the same continuous video clip. Do not stop and restart the camera between steps.

πŸ’ͺ S&C β€” Active Recovery Stretch (Required Β· Do After Debrief)
Recovery Breathing Protocol
Recovery day β€” no explosive work. Between each stretch: inhale 4 sec, hold 4 sec, exhale 6 sec. 3 breath cycles between each stretch. Ages 7–13: identical. Recovery quality determines development rate. Follow the stretch sequence in the reference card below.

INTEGRATION Β· FULL SKILL CHAIN
πŸ€ MAIN DRILL
Full April Skill Chain
link every skill from the month in one sequence. V-cut, catch, read, decision, execute. 10 complete chains.
Hoop Preferred 1 Ball Family
πŸ”— The Chain Rule

All 5 phases must connect without stopping. A fumbled catch or missed verbal call = a failed chain β€” restart from Phase 1. Record total completed chains and your SHOOT vs DRIVE count in your Dropbox note.

Phase 1: V-Cut
β†’
Phase 2: Catch
β†’
Phase 3: Read
β†’
Phase 4: Execute
β†’
Phase 5: Reset
Phase 1 V-Cut Start of every chain

Walk 3 steps toward parent (the defender). Plant. V-cut. Call “Ball!” at the exact moment you change direction. Parent passes on the call β€” the catch must be immediate. No lazy approach steps. The chain begins with a convincing fake.

Phase 2 Catch Clean Land balanced every rep

1-2 step or hop stop. Triple threat. Hold 1 second. Head scans. If you fumble the catch, that’s a failed chain β€” restart from Phase 1. The catch must be clean and controlled every single rep without exception.

Phase 3 Read the Closeout Call aloud before moving

Parent moves after the pass β€” slow or fast, random. Player applies the arm’s length rule. Call “SHOOT” or “DRIVE” aloud before moving. This is the IQ moment of the entire chain. A call that comes after the move earns no points for the read.

πŸ’ͺ S&C Break β€” After Sequence 5, Before Sequence 6
Game Prep Full-Body Circuit
5 squat jumps + 8 push-ups + 15-sec plank + 10 calf raises each side. Ages 7–9: squat + rise to toes (no jump), 5 push-ups, 10-sec plank. Ages 10–13: full reps at full speed. Then complete sequences 6–10.
Phase 4 + 5 Execute + Reset Complete the chain Β· Then repeat

SHOOT = full BEEF shot β€” no shortcuts. DRIVE = one explosive step, no hesitation after the call. Then: rebound, crossover dribble back to start, reset in triple threat. Parent returns to passer spot. 10 complete sequences total. After sequence 5, switch the closeout type. In your Dropbox note, record: total completed chains, SHOOT count, and DRIVE count.
